Formed in 1992 as a power pop trio with a heavy punk rock influence, a gumption of temper, and a fixation with Pez confect, Less Than Jake metamorphosed into a ska-inspired tough band with the addition of several members from 1993 to 1995. Vocalist and guitar player Chris Demakes, bassist Shaun, and drummer/lyricist Vinnie Fiorello were the number one incarnation of the radical, based in Gainesville, FL; later on Shaun became the group's roadie, however, he was eventually replaced by Roger Manganelli, wHO picked up bass just to conjoin the ring. During 1993-1994, the grouping added their number one horn player, Jessica, and shortly later came trombone player Buddy Schaub. Right before their number one tour, however, Schaub went to Europe with friends, so saxist Derron Nuhfer filled in for shows during his absence.
With diverse 7" releases under their belt, Less than Jake debuted in 1994 with the record album Pezcore, on Dill Records. Losers, Kings & Things We Don't Understand and Greased followed on No Idea until the grouping signed with Capitol for their major-label debut, 1996's Losing Streak. The album was full of the band's ironical, fast-paced brand of ska-punk anthems, producing such fan favorites as "Johnny Reb Quest Thinks We're Sellouts" and "Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore." Upon the album's completion, Jessica left hand to quest after education, and (ex-Slapstick trombone player) Pete came on add-in. Around this time, Fiorello besides started his possess record pronounce, Fueled by Ramen, with friend John Janick. Hello Rockview followed in 1998, and spawned a minor college radio shoot with "History of a Boring Town." In fall 2000, the band released Borders & Boundaries on Fat Wreck, as advantageously as landing the possibility pip on Bon Jovi's North American turn.
Nuhfer left the isthmus afterward the album's recording (and later went on to join Gunmoll), and Less Than Jake establish his replacement in ex-Spring Heel Jack saddle horn player Pete Wasilewski -- though to avoid any call confusion inside the banding, the indorsement Pete was dubbed JR, and remained JR fifty-fifty afterwards the get-go Pete decided to entrust presently afterward the 2001 Warped Tour. Over the years, Less Than Jake has issued more 7" and limited edition vinyl releases than to the highest degree multitude can maintain track of, so the bandmembers compiled some of their favourite tracks on one record for 2002's Auf wiedersehen Blue and White, named in laurels of their original enlistment van. Hymn followed in 2003 for Sire; B Is for B-Sides was issued a year by and by, comprised of tracks that did not make it to Hymn's final cut. The DVD retrospective People's History of Less Than Jake appeared a month by and by. The four-song EP Remission of sin for Idiots and Addicts was released in April 2006, with their side by side full-length, In with the Out Crowd, next a calendar month later. The latter's album slicker, pop-oriented nature received interracial reactions from fans.
